Knit or crochet? Make a red hat for a good cause

American Heart program collects hats for babies

If you can knit or crochet, you could help raise awareness for heart disease by making and donating red hats for newborns. The American Heart Association's Little Hats, Big Hearts program, in its third year in Wisconsin, distributes these made-with-love hats to babies born at St. Mary's Hospital and UnityPoint Health - Meriter in Madison.

Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of Americans, and congenital heart defects are the most common type of birth defect in the country.

Hats will be collected through Jan. 12, 2018 and will be distributed in February. Donate by dropping off or mailing red yarn or a red hat (made with red cotton or acrylic yarn, medium to heavy weight and machine washable and dryable in a preemie or newborn size) to:

American Heart Association
2850 Dairy Drive, Suite 130
