Madison Chef Week — an annual series of food events put on by the members of the Madison Area Chefs Network — showcases the talents and knowledge of local culinary experts whose abilities go way beyond their menus, says Bryan Weinstein, executive director of MACN.
“Its really cool to be able to experience the food of a chef in a different style than you normally would experience,” says Weinstein. “You are use to [your favorite chef] cooking Italian, now they are cooking Korean food. Or if you are use to them cooking Mexican food, now they are cooking Southeast Asian food.”
The kickoff dinner to the fifth annual Madison Chef Week is Sunday, March 31, at the Goodman Community Center, where proceeds benefit the food pantry and the community center. This is the first of 17 events where local members of MACN come together to collaborate, cook and have fun.
For instance, you can see chef Lauren Montelbano from Surya Cafe celebrate the magic of mushrooms at the “Pretty Fly Fungi” event at A Pig in a Fur Coat. You can also attend the “Honoring Our Roots: A Dinner Inspired by Odessa Piper,” where seven local chefs take over L’Etoile to pay tribute to Madison’s pioneer chef.
“It started an as opportunity for the various chefs in MACN to collaborate and put on some fun events." says Weinstein. “[It] gets them out of their zone and lets them work together with their fellow chefs. There is a community here and many of our chefs are friends outside of the industry.
“You won’t want to miss it,” Weinstein adds.
