5 food celebrations this week

Iron Chef Showdown, T-Swift's birthday and more

Wednesday, Dec. 13
Don't miss the Wednesday premiere of Tory Miller appearing on an episode of the Food Network show "Iron Chef Showdown" at 8 p.m. Miller, the James Beard Award-winning chef behind Madison restaurants L'Etoile, Graze, Sujeo and Estrellón, will face off against chef Jenner Tomaska of Next Restaurant, located in Chicago. The winner of the showdown will then face Chef Bobby Flay in an "All-American meat battle," according to Food Network. The episode will also air this week at 11 a.m. on Thursday and 5 p.m. on Sunday, and next week at 8 p.m. on Wednesday. (See below for a special Sunday night dinner and viewing party at L'Etoile.)

It’s Taylor Swift's Birthday on Wednesday! Love her or hate her, you can thank her for inspiring some killer birthday cocktails at Bassett Street Brunch Club. There's a drink for every type of Swiftie. If you’re sweet and innocent like country Taylor Swift, you’ll love the bubbly poured over sweet cotton candy. Classy and snazzy like 2009 Taylor Swift? Then sip on a juicy honey crisp hard cider. But if you’re hard core like 2017 T. Swift, then go ahead and help yourself to some house-made lemon-infused vodka and Stoli strawberry vodka ... Are you ready for it? 3-10 p.m., facebook.com

Thursday, Dec. 14
Five courses, five beers. Beer Dinner with Vintage Brewing Company at The Wise at HotelRED will feature award-winning craft beers to celebrate the works of the local brewpub. Jumpstart your appetite with a tangy roasted beet salad with citrus, maple toasted walnuts, goat cheese and orange vinaigrette. Chase it with pan roasted duck and a hearty pork tenderloin. Oh, and don’t forget dessert—the black forest cake will be the dinner's festive finale. $48.28, 6-8 p.m., eventbrite.com

Saturday, Dec. 16
Plan to indulge this weekend—delecTABLE’s very own executive chef Kristin Williams will be preparing Culinary Dinner Theatre: Modern Indulgence, and the menu has “holidays” written all over it. At this dinner event—where the chef and her team are the show and you are their audience—you’ll be served latkes mulligatawny in light of Hannukah and prime ribs for Christmas. The dinner ends on a refreshing note with a lemon mascarpone torte. Did we mention you get three wines and an alcoholic chai latte, too? $49, 6-9 p.m., eventbrite.com

Sunday, Dec. 17
Celebrate Madison's most celebrated chef as Tory Miller appears on the Food Network. L’Etoile, one of Miller’s restaurants, will be hosting Iron Chef Showdown Dinner, a dinner and watch party of his battle against Chicago’s Jenner Tomaska on Food Network’s Iron Chef. L’Etoile will be serving a six-course dinner while you cheer on the chef. $125, 5:30-8:30 p.m., facebook.com

Don’t you miss waking up on a weekend morning to brunch and farmer’s market on the Square? Check out Hanukkah Farmer's Market and Brunch at Temple Beth El. Shop around for some local, fresh cheese, preserves, meat and veggies. Once you’ve exhausted yourself from shopping, fill your belly up with some root veggie latkes and egg casserole. But ultimately, the holidays is all about giving thanks and spreading love; don’t miss out on a presentation about Wisconsin’s immigrant workers and the challenges they face. $10 for adults, $5 for kids under five, 10:15 a.m. -1:15 p.m., facebook.com
