Local actor Michael Herold reveals the most memorable character he's played:
"One of the characters I've had the chance to play that's certainly in my top is Charlie Baker from The Foreigner. I moved to Wisconsin from Ohio and it was the first show I did here [with the former Madison Repertory Theatre]. He was such an innocent in so many ways. What I look for in characters is getting to the essence of what makes them tick, how they see the world … Even if I play the same character more than once—which I did with Charlie and have with several Shakespeare characters—when you're in a different cast, your character becomes a different person. I've been in several productions that went for several months, and because we're human, our energy is different. When you're open to other people on stage, your response changes."
