Renowned local jazz musician Hanah Jon Taylor is officially creating a permanent home for jazz in Madison as Café CODA opens Sept. 8 on Williamson Street.
Café CODA will be a premiere space for world-class jazz and creative music, a release said.
The venue was temporarily opened in 2017 for six months at 113 W. Dayton St., but due to a hotel development project, Taylor was forced to close the venue.
Taylor, a legendary jazz saxophonist, flute and wind synthesizer player, music educator and impresario, has been searching for a hub of jazz in Madison, and Café CODA will fill the void.
According to the release, the venue will be a listening space "dedicated to the presentation of traditional, contemporary and creative music."
The space will present workshops and master classes as well as musical viewing and listening experiences.
The grand opening will be on Sept. 8 starting at noon with a community drum circle. There will be an afternoon open house and an evening performance featuring jazz pianist and bandleader Alexis Lombre and her ensemble.
A full schedule of the season's events at Café CODA will be coming soon.
