We’ve gone MAD!

Don’t think we haven’t heard the whispering behind our backs from people who don’t take our monthly publication as seriously as we do: “Madison Magazine? More like MAD magazine!”

Well, to those folks we say: Your wish has been granted! In this eight-page section, we take a self-deprecating look at Madison Magazine and our namesake city while paying tribute to MAD magazine, which set the gold standard for pop culture and political satire.

Our momentary loss of sanity coincides with MAD magazine sadly ceasing publication of new material as of late 2019 outside annual special issues.

That struck us as both a tragedy and an opportunity. We anticipated a much less funny world without MAD magazine on newsstands—unless we took up the banner of our fallen fellow magazine (if only this one time and in jest).

As we learned, writing and illustrating silliness is really fun but far from easy. We’ll let our readers decide if we successfully tipped some sacred cows and lampooned a few local institutions that, frankly, had it coming.

Signed,

MADison Magazine’s Own Gang of Idiots
