Madison ice rinks closed for the season; Elver Park Winter Festival still on
MADISON, Wis. — Mother Nature has thrown a curve ball to winter sports lovers in Madison.
The Madison Parks Department announced Wednesday that all Madison ice rinks have closed for the season, and ice skating events the next two weekends have been canceled.
However, the warm weather isn’t keeping the Madison Winter Festival from happening this weekend at Elver Park. The Elver Park shelter will still have ski and sled rentals this weekend, despite high temperatures predicted in the mid-50s both Saturday and Sunday.
The Capital Springs Winter Fun Day scheduled Saturday at Lake Farm County Park in Madison has been canceled because of warming weather, Capital Springs Naturalist Coordinator Clare Carlson said. Warming temperatures will make lake ice conditions uncertain and hiking trails soft.
