Madison East High School cancels football game due to health protocols

Madison East High School will represent Wisconsin in national culinary competition

MADISON, Wis. — Madison East High School is being forced to cancel its varsity and junior varsity football teams are canceling their games this week due to health and safety protocols, district officials say.

Madison Metropolitan School District athletic director Jeremy Schlitz says the junior varsity game Thursday and the varsity game Friday against Verona are being canceled.

No other sports are being affected at this time, according to Schlitz.

As of now, East’s game next Friday against Middleton has not been affected.

Madison East High School has reported 15 positive cases of COVID-19 and 93 close contacts in the previous 14 days, according to district data.

East is currently 1-6 overall and 1-4 in the Big Eight conference, with their only win coming against Madison West.

Madison West also recently had to cancel games against Sun Prairie and Middleton due to health and safety protocols.
