Madison couple reports home burglary
Man came face-to-face with burglar
MADISON, Wis. — A couple living in downtown Madison told police a shadow they thought was a cat turned out to be a burglar.
Police responded to the home in the 1000 block of East Johnson Street around 7:45 a.m. Sunday after the 29-year-old man said he thought a shadow passing their bedroom doorway was a cat but investigated after hearing creaking floorboards. He said he found the burglar with a laptop under his arm. The burglar set down the laptop, apologized and fled. The couple reported small electronic items missing.
The burglar is described as white, 5 feet 9 inches tall, 150 to 170 pounds, with gray hair, blue eyes, facial stubble and wearing a quilted vest and a dark baseball cap.
The victims said they likely forgot to lock the front door, which is where the burglar entered the home.
