Madison AT&T store reports 4th alleged identity fraud in three months
A New York woman was arrested Thursday at a Madison AT&T store on suspicion of fraud after she tried to pass herself off as another customer, police say.
This is the fourth time an out-of-state customer has attempted the same crime at the East Washington Avenue AT&T location, according to a police report.
Paula Tamayo, 23, attempted to use a false ID card to upgrade another customer’s phone and add two other lines to the customer’s plan, according to the report.
Police said AT&T employees, having seen this type of crime before, immediately contacted the customer whose ID Tamayo was attempting to use, then called the police.
After arresting Tamayo, police said they found three additional false IDs on her person, including two from Pennsylvania and one from Connecticut.
