Madelyn Y. (McGlinsley) Thompson
STOUGHTON/FITCHBURG – Madelyn Y. (McGlinsley) Thompson, age 91, of Fitchburg, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014, at St. Mary’s Hospital.
She was born on Dec. 16, 1922, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Edward and Beryl McGlinsley.
Madelyn married Willard Thompson on Jan. 15, 1941, in Dubuque, Iowa. She attended school in Chicago and Cambridge and graduated from Madison Area Technical College at the age of 50 with a degree in nursing.
Madelyn enjoyed creative writing, reading, painting, gardening, dining out and chocolate. Her passion was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed spending time with her new friends at Sylvan Crossing.
Madelyn is survived by her sons, Richard (Marianne) Thompson, Charles (Kerry) Thompson; daughters, Pat (Ed) Johnson, Gail (Jeff) Schroeter and Laurie (Gus) Peth; grandchildren, Tracy (Larry) Davis, Tara (Brian) Mitts, Charles (Charity) Thompson, Mollie (Steve Koppes) Thompson, Odessa (Chris) Matson, Beth (Josh) Peterson, Erica (David) Weishoff, Scott Peth and Tami (Mike) Whitton; great-grandchildren, Darnell, Raegan, Braeden, Colton, Macy, Berkeley, Samantha, Oscar and Hunter; sister-in-laws, Irene Sherman, Rachel Hauge and Gladys Thompson; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard; her parents; and great- grandson, Charles S. Thompson III; and brother, Edward.
A private memorial celebration will be held at a later date.
