Lyman Arno Waffenschmidt
Lyman Arno Waffenschmidt, age 92, passed away on Monday July 14, 2014 after a brief illness. He was born in Sumpter Township on October 10, 1921, the son of the late Arno and Katherine (Hatz) Waffenschmidt.
Lyman was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years Irene (Grass). He is survived by son, John and wife, Chris Schneller of Newport, Ore.; son, David and wife, Janet of Holmen; daughter, Lori and husband, Dan Ronan of Lewisville, Texas; Grandchildren Andrew, Neal and Emma Waffenschmidt, Angela (Thomas) Bennett, Nigel, Danny, Matthew, Jack and Scott Ronan and great granddaughter Sierra Bennett.
He lived in the Sauk Prairie area all of his life and proudly served the Army Air Corp during World War II in both North Africa and Italy.
He operated full service gas stations for many years in Prairie du Sac, under the Texaco and Mobil brands, bringing attention to eagle watching on the Wisconsin River long before it was well known.
Active throughout his later years, Lyman traveled to many events, including the Atlanta Olympics, the opening of Cowboys Stadium in Dallas/Fort Worth, the Masters Tournament in Augusta, Georgia and an Honor Flight for WWII Veterans to Washington, D.C.
Funeral services will be held at Concordia United Methodist Church, Prairie du Sac, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2014 with Pastor Doris Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in the Prairie du Sac Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
