Lunar New Year celebration held on State Street
MADISON, Wis. — People in downtown Madison took part in a Lunar New Year celebration on State Street Thursday night.
Visitors could experience traditional Chinese lion dancing, feed the lions to bring luck in the new year and enjoy New Year’s specials.
More than a dozen downtown businesses are Asian-owned and operated. Many of them prepared specials and hosted blessings at their locations.
The Lunar New Year began on Feb. 1. It’s considered one of the most important celebrations among East Asian and Southeast Asian cultures.
