Lucille V. Onsager

Lucille V. Onsager, age 95, of Waunakee, passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Waunakee Manor. She was born on June 18, 1921, in Madison, the daughter of George and Amanda (Netzlaff) Hoppe. Lucille graduated from Madison East High School in1939 and attended UW-Madison. She married the love of her life, Glenn Onsager on Oct. 18, 1941, and they were happily married for 67 years. Lucille enjoyed being a Girl Scout leader to a group of special girls and volunteered for a number of years at Central Wisconsin Center. She liked playing bridge and creating many crafts in her special crafting group. Lucille treasured the many summers spent at their cottage on Lake Wisconsin. She was a member of the Metropolitan Women’s Club, Peace Lutheran Church in Waunakee, and Charter member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Monona.

Lucille is survived by her daughters, Susan Rood, Nancy (Hank) Rollette, Georgia (Gary) Hammersley, and Janine (Ken Bischel) Onsager; seven grandchildren, Kirsten (Sean) Ziegler, John (Jennifer) Persike, Christopher (Connie) Persike, Jaime (James) Radtke, Gordon (Diana) Hammersley, Siri Hammersley, and Amanda Potts; 13 great-grandchildren, Connor, Callie and Ashley Ziegler, Jack and Max Persike, Casey, Riley, and Addison Persike, and Caleb, Isabel, Landon, Noah, and Gabe Radtke; A.F.S. mother to Jennifer (Saleem) Hamaty of Miami, Fla.; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glenn; son, Gordon; brother, Leslie Hoppe; and son-in-law, Peter Rood.

Graveside services will be held at FOREST HILL CEMETERY, 1 Speedway Rd., Madison, at 11:30 a.m., Monday, March 27, 2017, with the Revs. Doug and Karen Locken presiding. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be gifted in Lucille’s name to your favorite charity. Online condolences may be made at
