Louena Ida Goodman

Belleville, WI/Louena Ida Goodman has gone to heaven to be with God and her late husband Ralph, whom she had missed so dearly since his death in 1988. Louena passed away on Wednesday, December 19th at the St. Mary’s Center in Madison, surrounded by her family.

Louena was born on May 25, 1916 in Verona Wisconsin, the daughter of William and Dora Wild. She graduated from Verona High School and was the last surviving member of the class of 1934. In 1936 she married Ralph Goodman, on her birthday. She always joked about the newspaper announcement of their wedding which read “Wild woman marries Goodman”.

Louena worked at several jobs during her life, including time at Uffleman’s dime store in New Glarus and at the New Glarus Nursing home. She also worked as a home maker and along with Ralph raised three children.

She was a member of the New Glarus chapter of the Eastern Star and along with Ralph, served as Worthily Matron and Worthily Patron in 1964. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Belleville.

Louena loved to do crafts, read and bake. She enjoyed playing bingo and visiting with all of the friends that she made during her stay at Four Winds Manor and at St. Mary’s Care Center. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially during the holiday season, when everyone would gather at her home to celebrate.

Louena is survived by a daughter, Carol (Dwaine) of Cottage Grove, a son John (Diane) of Prairie du Sac, and a son-in-law, Ron Schmid of Belleville. She is also survived by a brother, William Wild (Genevieve) of Belleville. Louena had eight grand children, seventeen great grand children and eleven great great grand children along with many nephews, nieces and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Louena was preceded in death by her husband Ralph, her daughter Joyce, three brothers, Oliver, Oscar and Curtis and a sister Lorna Jordan.

A Memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday December 22nd at the First United Church of Christ, 130 East Church Street in Belleville, Wisconsin. Visitation will precede the service starting at 10:00 a.m.

Burial will be at the Belleville Cemetery following the luncheon.

A memorial fund has been established in Louena’s name.
