Los Angeles road renamed to honor Obama

A Los Angeles road will be renamed in honor of former President Barack Obama.

The Los Angeles Times reported that the city council voted Tuesday to rename Rodeo Road as Obama Boulevard.

Mayor Eric Garcetti made the announcement in a tweet, saying, “We’re thrilled that Angelenos and visitors will forever be reminded of the legacy of President @BarackObama when traveling across L.A.”

The Times reported that City Council President Herb Wesson proposed the name change in June 2017.

Rodeo Road is a 3.5-mile residential strip in a predominantly black community.

Wesson said in his proposal that Obama held a campaign rally at a park on Rodeo Road, and the area already has streets named after presidents, including George Washington and Thomas Jefferson.

Many locations in California honor Obama, with several schools, roads and a portion of a freeway named after the 44th president.
