Lorraine Spence

Hollandale – Lorraine Elizabeth Spence, age 95, of Hollandale, WI died on Friday, February 21, 2014 at Bloomfield Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Dodgeville.

She was born on October 10, 1918 in Elderon, WI a daughter of Joseph and Antonette (Nettie) Halverson Monty, Jr. She attended St. Mary’s Grade School and graduated from Bear Creek High School. Lorraine married Vernon R. Spence on September 27, 1941 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bear Creek, WI.

Lorraine and Vernon lived in Appleton, Black Creek, West Allis, and retired to Hollandale, WI. Lorraine worked at Tuttle Press in Appleton, on the family farm, and as an inspector at Briggs and Stratton in Wauwatosa, WI until retirement.

Lorraine was a loving mother and grandmother. She loved to play cards and games, especially Skip-Bo and Yahtzee and was known as the Yahtzee Queen at Bloomfield. She was a good dancer, bowler, and she enjoyed many “camping” trips with her family in their Airstream Trailer, reading, fishing, and visiting her family. She liked a good joke and had great stories. She was a member of St. Patrick Church in Hollandale, and a past 4-H leader, member of Iowa County Homemakers, and the VFW Auxiliary.

Lorraine is survived by her children, Jeanne (Bryan) Lisser, Hollandale and Jerold (Barbara) Spence, Colgate; son-in-law, David High, Lake Havasu City, AZ; sisters-in-law-Clara Spence and Betty Monty; eight grandchildren, Michael (Jennifer) Lisser of Wauwatosa, Heather Lisser of Monroe, Christopher (Janine) Lisser of Slinger, Matthew Spence of Milwaukee, Jeremy and Kyle Spence of Colgate, Terra Jean (Andrew) Spence of Waukesha, Amber (Frank) Baez of Lake Havasu City, AZ, and ten great grandchildren, Jaden, Ryan, Ellen, Calvin, Monty, Anthony, Carter, Laighton, Dylan, and Ava.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her daughter, Judith High; seven brothers and their spouses-Earl and Irene, Raymond, Lester and Betty, Reynold, Llewellyn and Joanne, Marvin, and Orville; four sisters and their spouses-Mary, Adeline and Harold, Edna and Art, and Delores and Bill; her in-laws Roy and Winifred Spence, Ronald and Loren Spence.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at ST. PATRICK’S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Hollandale. Father Thomas Gillespie will officiate. Burial will be held in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until time of Mass on Thursday at ST. PATRICK’S CATHOLIC CHURCH. A rosary service will be held at 10:30 a.m.
