Lorraine E. Jackson, age 95, of Madison, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017. She was born on Nov. 8, 1921, to William and Saraphina (Schoepp) Meicher. Lorraine grew up in Sauk City and moved to the Madison area in 1940. She soon met and married Donald S. Jackson on Jan. 26, 1941, in Dubuque, Iowa. They were married 58 years when Don passed away on June 5, 1999. Lorraine was raised Catholic and attended church regularly. Her love of God and respect for her religion continued throughout her life. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church. Lorraine enjoyed spending time with her immediate and extended family, and her many friends. Socializing, shopping, traveling, gambling, playing euchre and dancing were all things she enjoyed. A niece once said that she admired Lorraine because of her independence. She had a driver’s license when many of the ladies of her day did not. Lorraine was a loving and devoted mother and no ordinary grandmother; she was a part of her grandchildren’s lives. She took care of them when they were small, and continued to share in their lives as they grew. Lorraine loved to crochet and sew, especially making quilts. Each family member and many others have received one of these as a gift over the years, including her great-grandchildren. Her family and friends will remember Lorraine for her generosity, giving spirit, her ability to be a great listener and her impact on their lives. We will all miss her.
Lorraine is survived by four children, Richard (Marion), Linda Norton, Susan Wipperfurth and Kathleen Moen; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Frances Haas; and brothers, Wilfred, William and Robert Meicher. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Donna Mae; grandson, Kevin Moen; sister, Serena France; and brothers, Vincent, Jerome, Clarence and Joseph Meicher.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. PETER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5001 N. Sherman Ave., Madison, at 11a.m., on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2017. Entombment will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Tuesday.
