Lodi beats Madison Edgewood in WIAA baseball playoffs
Lodi High School met Madison Edgewood in the WIAA boys’ baseball playoffs for the third straight year on Tuesday. But this time, the Blue Devils handled a late charge by the Crusaders and beat Edgewood 2-1 at Warner Park in Madison.
Edgewood senior Mike Pleimling has returned from Tommy John’s surgery and pitched four solid innings Tuesday.
But the Blue Devils got to him in the third. Fred Manke drove one to deep right center, which scored Kyle Clapper from first. That gave Lodi a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, Lodi was up 2-0 but Edgewood tried to rally. Paul Mutch got a base hit through the left side and scored Ben Young to cut the lead to 2-1.
But the Crusaders couldn’t get any further. In the bottom of the seventh with two on and two out, Jack Reiland ground out to first, which gave Lodi the victory.
They go on to play Mount Horeb in the regional final Wednesday.
