Lodi 8th-grader dies in accidental shooting

A Lodi eighth-grader died Friday after being accidentally shot at his home Thursday, according to a release from the School District of Lodi.

No other students or children were involved in the accident, according to the release.

The Lodi Police Department said the incident happened outside city limits.

The eighth-grader has been identified as Jacob Trotter.

Lodi Middle School students were notified of Jacob’s death Monday morning, and were given the opportunity to spend individual time with a counselor if they were upset or wanted to talk privately, officials said.

Counselors are being made available through the week, according to the release.

“The School District of Lodi has been providing support to our students, staff and the family as we all work through the feelings and emotions of this tragic loss of a Lodi student,” the release said.
