Local nurse practitioner is working to save babies’ lives

MADISON, Wis. – If your child has open heart surgery at American Family Children’s Hospital, you’ll probably meet Karie Canada.

Canada is a pediatric cardiovascular nurse practitioner with UW Health Kids.

Brittany Wanless of Sauk County credits Canada for helping her family through the complex care that her baby Mimi required after the first of four open-heart surgeries.

“I’m here to support them,” Canada said. “I’m always here for them if they need things that maybe don’t even pertain to the heart”

Canada attributes her love for the job and her patient’s success to the entire team approach.
