Local business owners have proposed a boutique hotel featuring restaurants and a music venue to be built on King Street, according to a release.

The owners of Merchant, Madison’s and the Majestic have teamed up to propose the King Hotel to the city. The hotel will bring together art, fine food and drink, entertainment, retail and hospitality, officials said.

The proposed seven-floor hotel would be built at 118 King Street on the corner of King and Webster streets, according to the release. The location is currently a parking lot.

The privately-funded hotel would have 33 rooms and employ at least 50 people, according to the proposal.

The state-of-the-art Flatiron building, which was designed by OPN Architects of Madison, will feature six venues, including a hotel, a restaurant, a hidden bar, a barber shop and a lower-level event space, officials said. The rooftop will also feature an indoor, outdoor café with a four-season retractable roof.
