Live on King Street Kicks Off This Week
What started out as a funky experiment has turned into one of the most popular Friday night music series in the city. Live on King Street, which is presented by the Majestic Theatre, begins this week with rising alternative band tUnE-yArDs along with fellow New Englanders Speedy Ortiz and Minneapolis multi-instrumentalist Dosh.
The location is just outside the theater doors on the recently reconstructed King Street, making for a gorgeous summer evening setting. Gates open at 6 p.m. The raised stage gives thousands a great view of the performers while the bands get a great view of the lit-up state capitol.
The best part? Oh yeah, it’s free!
Seriously, this is one fun party and even a few local acts get in on the revelry. The Family Business will open for Cracker on July 25 along with fellow Wisconsinites Hugh Bob and the Hustle, who hail from Butternut.
And for the final Live on King Street, another local band, Count This Penny, will open for the popular folk-rock band The Head and The Heart along with Chicago garage-pop rockers Bare Mutant on September 19.
This will be the fourth run for the music series, which began as an end-of-summer celebration and has expanded to five nights of concerts that showcase both established and rising national acts.
