Live Chat with editor Karen Lincoln Michel
The May issue of Madison Magazine captures local reaction in words and visual images to the March 6 fatal shooting of an unarmed, nineteen-year-old African American male by a white Madison police officer.
As the community awaits the decision on whether Dane County District Attorney Ismael Ozanne will file criminal charges against the officer involved, a broader question looms of how Madison will address the issue of race relations in the area.
Madison Magazine conducted an online chat, “A Conversation on Race,” on April 30, hosted by editor Karen Lincoln Michel.
–Ruben Anthony, president and CEO of the Urban League of Greater Madison
–Leslie Howard, president and CEO of the United Way of Dane County
–Rachel Krinsky, CEO of YWCA Madison
“The issue of race relations has taken on more urgency in light of recent incidents that have drawn protests and public outcries for change across the nation,” says Michel. “It’s important for us to provide a forum for the local community to begin the conversation on how we move forward together.”
