2 arrested in 2019 Rock County triple shooting that killed 21-year-old, police say
BELOIT, Wis. – Two people have been arrested in connection with a shooting death in Rock County last March, an official said.
Beloit police Chief David Zibolski said at a news conference Friday morning that 27-year-old Anthony L. Sims III and 31-year-old Gregory A. Carter Jr., of Beloit, are facing charges in connection with the fatal triple shooting on March 11, 2019.
“The arrests here today are the first step in bringing justice to the family and holding those involved accountable,” Zibolski said.
Treron L. White, 21, of Beloit, was killed in a shooting March 11 around 9:30 p.m. in the area of Elm Street and Roosevelt Avenue, officials said. The two other people shot, Devonta D. Brandenburg, 25, and a 15-year-old boy, both of Beloit, were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries from gunshot wounds.
Police had said a large confrontation involving many people led to the shooting.
“This is an extremely complicated investigation,” Zibolski said.
Carter was arrested in 2019 the week of the shooting, but Zibolski said he was released because at the time, officials didn’t believe they had enough evidence to charge him.
Zibolski said Friday that the department would not release booking photos of Carter and Sims. He said the investigation is ongoing.
