Liquor landmark set to close Feb. 14

Party Port on University Avenue is officially closing its doors Feb. 14 to make way for a new development.
According to its website, Party Port is known for being the world’s No. 1 retailer of keg beer.
Party Port has been a staple of alcohol sales in Madison since 1946 and its iconic red sign has been a notable landmark for just as long.
Over the past couple of months, there has been discussion concerning the site and its development. Along with Party Port, three multi-family dwellings will be demolished to construct a five-story, mixed-use building with 10,600 square feet of commercial space and 39 apartments, according to the plan commission’s agenda. In addition, they plan on building a two-story, eight-unit townhouse building in that location.
Party Port is offering a 10 percent off inventory sale due to its imminent sale, its website said. The discount applies to kegs currently in stock, but not special order kegs.
“It has been a pleasure to serve you all for these many years,” its website said.
