Lightning strike causes $100,000 damage to home
The Washington County sheriff’s department said a home suffered $100,000 in damage due to a lightning strike late Sunday night.
The incident happened in the 8000 block of the Town of Barton, just north of West Bend, Sunday just before midnight.
According to the sheriff’s department, when deputies arrived, they noticed smoke coming from the attic and the roof of the house. Officers promptly evacuated an adult, a child and a dog from the home.
Firefighters were able to put out the fire that had spread to the attic area. No one was injured in the fire.
An investigation showed that there was a tall metal pole, with supports that had fallen from the room, and a large hole was located in the roof at the base where the pole had been, and wood studs were knocked out around the hole.
