Library turns to community for funding
Madison Central Library will open summer 2013
MADISON, Wis. — The new Madison Central Library project is in its sixth month and is set to open in summer 2013.
Media and key donors were invited to tour the facility, located at 201 W. Mifflin St. The event also served as the library’s kick-off to the community campaign.
While the library has about 75 percent of the funds needed to complete the project, a little more than $2 million is still needed for equipment and furnishings.
“This has been a long time coming. It’s a big project. The city has been great – they’re contributing the lion’s share of the funds – but the community needs to step up for the rest and so far they have,” said Tripp Widder, Madison Library board president. “I’m confident that we’ll be able to complete the campaign.”
In total, Madison Central Library will cost $30 million.
