Levern M. Skjegstad
Levern M. Skjegstad, 83, of Platteville, died on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at Manor Care Health Center in Platteville. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 29, 2012 at the Lutheran Church of Peace, Platteville. Rev. Jeff Pedersen will officiate. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Platteville. Friends may call from 12:00 p.m. (Noon) until the time of the service Sunday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Levern M. Skjegstad Memorial Fund. Levern was born on May 18, 1929 in Henning, MN, the son of Peter August and Olga Elvira (Molvald) Skjegstad. He attended Henning Rural School #234, then Henning Elementary and Henning High School, graduating in 1947. In 1949, he married LeReice Karagan, to this union four children were born; Ricky Lee, Glen, Debbie, and Sherry. In 1977 he married Maxine Henry and had three step-children, Donna Counselman, Diane Paynter, and Gary Henry. Levern worked for Volden Construction in Henning, MN, Minaski Construction in Fargo, ND; for Stromberg-Carlson as Central Office Phone Installer; and Platteville Telephone Company until his retirement in 1991. After retirement he worked for Dick’s Supermarket for ten years. He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church of Peace, where he made audio tapes for the elderly. He enjoyed reading, fishing and playing pool.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine of Platteville; children, Debbie (Jim) Ingberg of Fargo, ND; Sherry (Danny) Lunder, Rickey Skjegstad, and Glen Skjegstad all of Hawley, MN; step-children, Donna Counselman of Plymouth, WI; Diane (Charles) Paynter of Platteville; and Gary Henry of Houston, TX; grandchildren, James Ingberg, Wesley Ingberg, Farrah (Darrin) Hertel, Ricky Lunder, Joshua Marvig; great-grandson, Austin Dahl; step-grandchildren, John (Sheri) Rathje and their family Owen and Anja; Chad (Lisa) Manuell and their family, Bradyn and Taylor; Ryan (Jenny) Manuell and their family, Ava; Eric (Shannon) Counselman and their family Esme; Ryan (Laura) Counselman; Terry (Lori) Ferkey; one brother, Arlow (Carol) Skjegstad one sister, Arlene Cloving, He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ralph and sisters, Ruby Anderson and Delores Skjegstad, step-son-in-law, Dan Counselman.
