Leonard (Lennie) E. Holzhueter, 85 of Waterloo, passed away on Sunday May 25, 2014 peacefully at So Close to Home of Marshall.
Lennie was born on June 30, 1928 in Watertown, the son of Otto and Lydia (Lemke) Holzhueter. He was a 1948 graduate of Waterloo High School. Lennie served in the U.S. Army from 1947-1948. He married Dolores J. Mannigel on January 26, 1952. The majority of his working life was spent as the owner and operator of Holzhueter Meats, a local meat wholesaler. Lennie loved to play cards, especially sheepshead and euchre. He was an avid sports fan, loved to fish and was the “honorary custodian” at Jesheba Duck Camp.
He is survived by: his wife Dolores Holzhueter of Sun Prairie; Children Rick (Diane) Lemke of Montello, Jane (Dave) Ring of Cottage Grove, Steve (Margie) Holzhueter of Black Earth, and Keith Holzhueter of Chesterfield, MO; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and brothers Don (Sue) Holzhueter and Lester (Sylvia) Holzhueter. Leonard is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Lennie is preceded in death by: his parents, 5 brothers and 2 sisters.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to St. John’s Lutheran Church.
A funeral service will be at 11:00AM on Friday May 30, 2014 at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Waterloo with Rev. Thomas Wilsmann presiding. Visitation will be from 9:00AM until the time of service at the church. He will be buried at Washington Cemetery at a later date.
