Law enforcement to lock down on boat safety July 4 weekend
County officials extending hours for Tenney Locks
MADISON, Wis. — With July 4th weekend inching up, local law enforcement will have their eyes out on the water.
Dane County and Rock County sheriff’s office deputies said they’ll be patrolling for intoxicated boaters.
Alcohol plays a role in nearly one in five fatal boating crashes, they said.
Deputies will also be giving out citations if there isn’t a life jacket for each passenger on a boat.
Dane County officials are extending the hours for the Tenney Locks on Lake Mendota.
They’ll be open until 12:30 a.m. Sunday for “Rhythm and Booms,” and will have extended hours on Wednesday, July 4.
The Tenney Locks move boaters up and down the five foot level difference between Lakes Monona and Mendota.
