LaVerne R. “Larry” Carlstrom

MADISON-LaVerne R. “Larry” Carlstrom, age 90, of Madison, passed away on Monday, March 13, 2017, at Aster Retirement Community.

He was born on Nov. 28, 1926, in Grantsburg, Wis., the son of Fredolph and Esther (Streed) Carlstrom. He graduated from UW Madison with a Bachelor’s Degree in 1952.

Larry married Barbara “Bunnie” Krause on May 5, 1956. He worked for Sears from 1944 until his retirement in 1989.

Larry served in the U.S. Navy from 1945-1946 on-board the battleship U.S.S. Wisconsin. He was also proud to be on the Badger Honor Flight. Larry was a member of St. Dennis Catholic Church and VFW Post No. 8483. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, astronomy and simply being with his family.

Larry is survived by his wife, Barbara “Bunnie”; daughters, Mary Carlstrom (Jim Danz) and Margaret “Peggy” (Don) Bindl; sons, Robert “Skip” Carlstrom and Paul (Lynn) Carlstrom; grandchildren, Kirsten (Peter) VonBusch, Nate (Kara) Olson, Greg Lynch, Zach (Erin) Olson, Luke (Amanda) Carlstrom and Nick Carlstrom; great-grandchildren, Karlie, Cade, and Kale Olson and Everett VonBusch; sister-in-law, Fritzie Chicker; and special nephews, Mike (Nikki) Chicker and Matt (Melissa) Chicker. He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Fred and Gert Krause; and brother-in-law, Hal Chicker.

Funeral services will be held at ST. DENNIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 505 Dempsey Rd., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2017, with Father Joji Reddy Allam presiding. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.

Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established. Special thanks to Agrace HospiceCare, especially Nicole, Carmen and Sammy. Also, thank you to the Aster Care staff for their care and compassion.
