Laroy Dean Schehr
Laroy D. Schehr, age 56, passed away on February 11, 2014, after a hard-fought battle with cancer.
Roy was born on June 28, 1957 to Norman and Judith Schehr. He graduated from Madison East High School in 1975 and went on to work for the State of Wisconsin. He and his beloved wife, Sandra (Wendel) Schehr, recently celebrated the 17th anniversary of their first date on December 21.
Roy was a devoted husband and father, and an extremely proud grandfather. He was an avid sportsman and loved hunting with his sons; particularly turkey hunting. Roy also had an obsession with golf, playing year-round, which was an especially impressive feat during Wisconsin winters.
Roy is survivied by his wife and true love, Sandra Schehr; his children, Amanda (Joshua) Kenny, Richard (Shelbie Baker) Schehr, Kyle (Jennifer) Schehr, and Jason Howland; his siblings, Bonnie (Gary) Volkmann, Trina (Ken) Messer, Val (Mark) Villavicencio, Kim (Todd) Patton, and Mike Schehr; his grandchildren, Elijah Kenny, Stella Kenny, and Brycen Schehr; his napping buddy, Lily; and many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Norm and Judy Schehr.
A celebration of Roy’s life will be held at Olbrich Botanical Gardens, in Evjue Commons, 3330 Atwood Ave, Madison, on February 18, 2014 from 5-8pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Roy’s memory to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, lls.org/waystohelp/donate/.
The family is deeply grateful for the kind and compassionate care and support given by the physicians, nurses and staff of the Oncology and Hematology department of the UW Hospital. The oncology nurses provided Roy with exceptional care, and for that he was truly thankful.
