Large crowds expected for American Family Insurance Championship
Police officers from Madison, Verona and the University of Wisconsin-Madison will work together to get up to 15,000 golf fans through one of the area’s busiest intersections and to the American Family Insurance Championship this week.
The event begins Friday and ends on Sunday.
“As with anytime, the corner of PD and M, that’s always a busy corner. Those that are familiar with Madison understand that. So everyone should allow patience and allow them time,” Tournament Director Nate Pokrass said.
Once at the University Ridge Golf Course, patrons will find public parking within walking distance to the course. Golf carts will be available to shuttle individuals who are unable to walk from the parking lot to the course.
“With dry weather we’ll have outstanding parking immediately west of University Ridge on the large cross-country field, 40 acres of parking right on the grass. General public will all have free access to parking,” Pokrass said.
The outstanding field includes John Daly, Bernhard Langer and eight other winners of Masters, U.S. Opens, British Opens or PGA Championships. On Saturday a celebrity foursome including Steve Stricker, Andy North, Brett Favre and Mark Tauscher will participate.
Proceeds from the tournament will be distributed to the American Family Children’s Hospital and other charities.
