Lancaster beats Amherst 41-21 for WIAA D5 crown

Tyler Glass ran for three touchdowns and caught another as Lancaster pulled away in the second half to snap a three-year streak of title-game defeats with a 41-21 win over Amherst in the Division 5 final of the state high school championships Thursday night.

Lancaster (13-1) extended a 21-14 halftime lead to 35-14 early in the fourth quarter to avenge a 19-7 loss to Amherst in the 2012 final. It was the Flying Arrows’ seventh state title, tying them with Stratford for the most championships.

The high-powered offenses traded long first-half scoring drives before Glass’ 2-yard run put Lancaster up 21-14 midway through the second quarter. Amherst (13-1) was on the verge of answering again, but fumbled on the Lancaster 3-yard line with 21 seconds left.
