Lake Mills area schools evacuated for bomb threat, officials say

LAKE MILLS, Wis. — Lake Mills Area School District evacuated multiple schools Wednesday morning after officials received a phone call making a bomb threat directed toward an undisclosed school.

Officials said they believe the phone call was pre-recorded. According to a news release, the message provided a specific window that the bomb threat would be carried out. All Lake Mills area public schools were immediately evacuated and students and staff were sent to off-site locations.

Law enforcement officials responded with bomb-sniffing K9 units and other resources to search district buildings. As of 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, the investigation was ongoing.

Students were released to their parents, and all Lake Mills Area School District events were cancelled for the remainder of the day.

The Lake Mills Area School District, the Lake Mills police and fire departments, FBI, ATF, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and multiple other agencies responded to the call.
