La Crosse’s Oktoberfest to scale back to 4 days

Festival posted losses last 3 of 4 years

La Crosse’s Oktoberfest is scaling back from nine days to four days in 2014.

Oktoberfest began as a four-day festival but changed to a nine-day fest in 2000.

Kam-Lin Roswall, president of the Oktoberfest Board of Directors, says they plan to make the four days denser with activities. She says one of the goals is also to be more fiscally responsible.

The La Crosse Tribune reports the festival has posted financial losses in at least three of the past four years.

This year’s event will be Sept. 27 through Oct. 5. Next year, the festival will open Sept. 25.

Dave Clements, executive director of the La Crosse Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, says he doesn’t expect the change to affect the festival’s annual $3 million impact on the city.
