La Crosse man sentenced in federal court for having gun as felon

MADISON, Wis. (WKBT)- A La Crosse man is headed to federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

A federal judge in Madison sentenced Yovon C. Boyd, 34, to 50 months in prison.

Boyd pleaded guilty to the charge in November of last year.

In October 2018, La Crosse Police were dispatched to a domestic disturbance call.

When officers got there, they found the home dark and Boyd was sitting in a lawn chair in the front yard.

The officers lit up the area with flashlights and their body cameras captured Boyd reach into his pocket, pull out a gun and throw it under the chair.

Officers recovered a Bersa .380 pistol.

At the time, Boyd was on probation for felony child abuse conviction.
