Knife-wielding man chases teens from park to police station
MADISON, Wis. — Madison police say they arrested a knife-wielding man who threatened two teens after they refused to share an e-cigarette with him.
At 9:35 p.m. Tuesday, two boys, ages 16 and 17, were sitting inside their car at a Hoyt Park scenic overlook. They told police a stranger approached the car and asked for a “hit” off an electronic cigarette.
When the boys said no, the man reportedly pulled out a knife, started pounding on the window and bent down near a tire. The victims said they were afraid the man would slash the tire, so they drove away.
The boys called 911 and reported the man was following them in his car. The dispatcher instructed the boys to drive to the Midtown police station.
The victims and the suspect both pulled into the police parking lot. Police said the man refused orders to exit his car. Officers placed spike strips behind his tires in case he tried to drive away. Officers had to break a window to get the man out.
Eli Asnien, 35, of New Orleans, was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct while armed and resisting/obstructing an officer.
