King VA home commandant reassigned as Veterans Affairs department auditor
Deputy commandant will fill role in interim
KING, Wis. — The commandant of the veterans home in King has been reassigned to an auditor role within the state Department of Veterans Affairs, the department secretary said Friday.
In an email sent to staff Friday evening and obtained by News 3, Secretary Daniel Zimmerman said commandant Jim Knight has been reassigned to a fiscal compliance auditor position, in which Knight will provide fiscal and budgetary oversight to all three of the state’s veteran homes.
Deputy commandant Shannon Hardel will serve as interim commandant beginning Sunday, Zimmerman said.
Department officials will begin searching for a new leader of the facility, Zimmerman said.
Zimmerman said the change is part of his ongoing assessment of operations at the state’s veteran homes.
