Kindergartner struck, killed while waiting for bus identified; benefit account created to help family

PLAINFIELD, Wis. — Officials with the Tri-County School District have identified the kindergarten student struck and killed by a vehicle while waiting for the bus near Plainfield.

District officials released a statement Thursday about a benefit account created in honor of six-year-old Maryanna Kranz.

“First and foremost, we want to sincerely thank our local and surrounding communities for their most generous support, condolences and prayers for Maryanna’s family and our school community,” the release said.

Kranz was one of several students waiting for the bus Monday morning on Highway 73 when the crash happened.

Her 4-year-old sister was also injured, but is now recovering at home.

Plainfield crash

Officials said the bus was stopped and had its lights flashing when a pickup truck traveling in the same direction passed by and struck the siblings.

Authorities identified the driver as 76-year-old Carl Mullenix.

The Tri-County School District is offering counseling services to students and staff.
