Kevin Nicholson’s mother donates to Tammy Baldwin, other Democrats
MADISON, Wis. — The mother of a Republican candidate in the Wisconsin race for U.S. Senate is a 15-time contributor to his competitor, according to an article from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel .
Kevin Nicholson, a former Democrat, is running for a Wisconsin seat in the U.S. Senate as a Republican. His mother, Donna Nicholson, has a history of donating to Democratic campaigns, including her son’s competition in the Senate race, Sen. Tammy Baldwin, the Journal Sentinel reported.
Donna Nicholson has made 15 donations to Baldwin’s campaign since 2012, for a total of $441, according to federal campaign record. Four of those contributions went to Baldwin’s current election cycle, according to the article.
Her most recent donation to Baldwin was about a year before her son announced his candidacy, in June of 2016. Since her son declared his candidacy, his mother has made 14 donations to Democratic candidates and federal groups, including U.S. Rep. Mark Pocan from Wisconsin, U.S. Sen. Al Franken of Minnesota and U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia, the Journal Sentinel reported.
Donna Nicholson also donates to Democracy for America, which is a liberal political action committee that has endorsed Randy Bryce, who is challenging House Speaker Paul Ryan, according to the article.
“Kevin has stated repeatedly that he comes from a family of Democrats,” the spokesperson from Kevin Nicholson’s campaign said. “He is a conservative because his life experiences which include serving as a Marine in Iraq and Afghanistan, raising a family, and working in the private sector has made him that way.”
