Kenneth L. Hadley

Kenneth L. Hadley, 88, of La Crosse formerly of Viola, passed away peacefully at Gunderson Health System on Saturday, February 22, 2014.

He was born at Duck Creek, Town of Webster, Wisconsin to Hiram and Laura (Geddes) Hadley on December 14, 1925. Kenneth served in the US Army, Company A, 9th Armored Division, 14th Tank Battalion during the Battle of the Bulge, earning a special citation for securing the bridgehead at Remagen Germany on March 7, 1945. After an Honorable Discharge from the Army, he married Darlene E. Boggs on July 9, 1947.

Kenneth was a versatile, talented, and hardworking many who worked at numerous jobs ranging from plumbing, heating and air conditioning, carpentry, car repair, factory and farming. He never stayed at a job he didn’t like! Kenneth had a deep love of music and played the violin and guitar. Family gatherings turned into folk music festivals.

Kenneth is survived by his wife of 66 years, Darlene; 6 children: La Verne (Arlene) Hadley of La Crosse, Marjorie (Joseph) Decker of Stoughton, Karen Hadley of West Salem, Wayne Hadley of Onalaska, Arlen (Diana) Hadley of Onalaska, and Melinda Hadley of La Crosse; 16 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; numerous relatives and friends.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; 5 brothers: Merle, Lawrence, Algon, Oscar, and Paul; 5 sisters: Hazel, Goldie, Agnes, Thelma, and Charlotte; 2 grandsons: Curtis and Thad Decker and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at 3:00 PM at the Seland Huston Funeral Home in LaFarge with Bonita Dorschied officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will follow in the Bear Creek Cemetery. Friends may call at the Seland Huston Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 from 1:00 PM until the time of the service at 3:00 PM.
