Kenneth “Ken” Schewe
OREGON – Kenneth “Ken” Schewe, age 77, passed away peacefully on Friday July 6, 2012, at Oregon Manor after 5 ½ wonderful years under the care of a great Oregon Manor staff. Ken was born May 13, 1935, in Middleton, the son of Edward and Clara (Annen) Schewe.
He moved to Madison during his younger years and graduated from Madison Central High School in 1953. Ken later met Mildred P. Holland and they were married on May 30, 1956. They moved to Oregon in 1962 and raised four children. Ken and Millie were married for 43 years prior to her passing in 1999. He was best known for many years as a bartender, bus driver for the Oregon School District and Richardson Bus Service, and owner of Ken’s Carpet Shampoo Service. Ken was a member of Holy Mother of Consolation Catholic Church.
He is survived by three children, Jerry (Joy) Schewe of Platteville, Rita (Tim) Stone of Madison, and Roger Schewe of Oregon; four grandchildren, Tricia (Tim Lamers) Schewe of Combined Locks, Heather (Dustin) Couey of Milton, Kyle (Brittanie Bullion) Schewe of Platteville, and Kevin Schewe of La Crosse; a great-granddaughter, Lia Couey; four sisters-in-law, Eileen Pickett of Darlington, Roseanna Van Matre of Darlington, Loretta (Donald) Wilhelmson of Argyle and Vera Finley of Oregon; a brother-in-law, Robert Bartig of Nelsonville; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Ken was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Millie (1999); a son, David (1977); brothers, George (Violet) Esser, Raymond Esser and John (Rosaline) Esser; sisters Gertrude (Mike) Kelter and Margaret Schumacher.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at HOLY MOTHER OF CONSOLATION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 651 N. Main St., Oregon at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 11, 2012, with Father Gary Wankerl presiding. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL HOME, 1150 Park St., Oregon and from 10 a.m. on Wednesday until the time of service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Agrace Hospice care or Holy Mother of Consolation Catholic Church.
