Kay and Harry Lum are a free-wheeling pair

Kay Lum has learned a few things pedaling her bike around Wisconsin and elsewhere over the past 30 years. One key piece of advice: Always break the wind for your partner.
“And carry his stuff, too, if needed,” she jokes.
Harry Lum doesn’t dispute his wife’s take. “She is a much stronger rider than I am,” he admits. Kay, who rides more than 5,000 miles annually, says Harry just needs to train more. “Somehow he thinks playing golf makes him a better biker,” she says.
The affable Fitchburg couple are fixtures on the local fitness sports scene, both biking and cross-country skiing. They met in 1986 on an XC ski trip to the now-closed Telemark Lodge in Cable, Wisconsin. When the two ride together these days, Kay heeds another piece of advice: “Keep a good attitude and don’t ever make your spouse ride farther than he wants,” she says.
Harry, 60, heads Convenience Electronics, a technology hardware company in McFarland. Kay, 53, runs a graphic design business and a sports apparel company called Absurddudeez. The Lums host a bike ride and party annually to benefit the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Called Pedal and Party in Pardeeville with a Purpose, this year’s version is July 23.
