Kathryn E. Triggs

Kathryn E. Triggs

MADISON- Kathryn Elizabeth “Katie” Triggs, age 83, embraced the Lord’s call to His kingdom on June 3, 2014.

She was born on May 17, 1931, the daughter of Johnny and Dorothy Friis, in Madison, Wisconsin.

Katie worked in many “hometown” restaurants in Madison, however her favorite place of employment was The Memorial Union. She loved being on campus with all the students. Katie was united in marriage to Jerome B. Triggs on June 9, 1951, in Madison, Wisconsin. The greatest title Katie ever carried was Mom/Nana. Her family was her life and people often said “she would never be without a child on her hip”. She raised 10 children and played an active role in her grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s lives. But it didn’t stop there many friends of the kids growing up calling her “Mom” and without hesitation she would answer. She helped out with her daughter’s daycare and sure enough the children picked up calling her Nana and to this day some still do.

Katie was truly a rare find, faithful, kind, always giving of herself even at the expense of herself. Two of her greatest joys were getting her driver’s license at age 43 and confirmed just days before her passing. A rosary would be found in her hands every morning and every night, with daily mass on the T.V. Her most favorite saying was “God wouldn’t give you anything you couldn’t handle”.

Katie leaves behind to share her stories and repeat her goofy words, her pup dog, Biscuit; her children, ER (Susan), Patricia (Doug), Kathleen, Kevin, Fred (Mary), Jerry (Christine), Diane (Tom), Allen, Sandi (Bill), and Connie. Her grandchildren, Troy, Brian, Erik, Stevie, Trevor, Corey, Jerome, Jordan, Johnathan, Austin, Sara, Hilary, Maranda, Amelia, George, Trey, TJ, Maranda, and Cheyenne. Along with 6 great grandchildren, including her name sake Kathryn Elizabeth.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome B. Triggs on April 1, 1992, just shy of 41 years of marriage; along with her infant son, Thomas Jerome; her parents Johnny and Dorothy; her mother and father in-law, Fred and Irene Triggs; her siblings, Dorothy (Arnie) Pierce, Earl (Janice) Friis, and Richard (Dolores) Friis
