Katharina “Katie” Broquist
Katharina “Katie” Broquist, 95, of Platteville, died peacefully on October 30, 2014 at Epione Pavilion in Cuba City.
Visitation and a memorial service will be held at Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, on Sat., November 15, 2014 at 12:00 pm. (Noon). Rev. Jeff Pedersen will officiate. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Katie was born on April 28, 1919 in Cologne Germany, the daughter of Hermann and Sybilla Opgenoorth. She completed all of her formal education in Cologne and Sulz, Germany.
On Nov 8, 1947, Katie married Oliver Broquist, first lieutenant in the US Forces in Rosenheim, Bavaria, where she had moved with her mother to escape the bombing in Northern Germany. The couple traveled back to the US shortly thereafter on a no-frills freighter in January 1948. They embarked from Bremerhaven on the North Sea for a 2 ½ week crossing bound for Tampa, FL. They settled in Wisconsin, living in Madison, Mosinee and Orfordville before coming to Platteville in 1961 where Oliver taught music education at the University of Wisconsin, Platteville for 25 years.
Katie was an outstanding, meticulous homemaker & loving mother her entire life. She particularly excelled at baking. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church for 40
years. Katie loved music and German Rhine wine.
She is survived by her son, Bruce Broquist, of Eden Prairie, MN, one nephew, Alan (Anita) Broquist of Nashville, TN and one niece, Lynn Broquist of Ithaca, NY. She was preceded in death by her husband, her brother Martin and her parents.
