Lake Mills police honor fallen firefighter with new K-9
LAKE MILLS, Wis. — The Lake Mills Police Department is adding a new member to their team, and this one is a little furrier than the rest.
After the loss of firefighter Chris Truman in 2018, the Lake Mills Police Department has been mourning his loss.
“As we move forward in the process with the dog, I found out that this was easily the biggest challenge of my career,” Lake Mills Police Department Chief Mike Selck said.
The department named their first and only K-9 dog in his name. Saturday, officers showed off K-9 Truman at a meet and greet. Between sniffing out illegal drugs to taking down the bad guys, K-9 Truman is acting as the guard dog for the entire Lake Mills community, but that doesn’t mean he’s against friendly petting.
Although he will never replace firefighter Chris Truman, his personality is one the officers look forward to every day.
“The dispatchers love giving him treats. He loves being in the police department,” officer TJ Adams said. “Right away when he gets in every shift, the first thing he does is run to the dispatch.”
