Julie A. Szymaszek, 59, of Rewey died on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at her home surrounded by her family following a long battle with cancer.
Services will be 5:00 p.m. Saturday, November 24, 2012 at the Melby-Bendorf Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Pastor Nelson Perkins will officiate. Private family burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Platteville. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Julie A. Julie was born on November 14, 1953 in Boscobel, Wisconsin, the daughter of Dorland and Bessie (Mayne) Updike. She was united in marriage to Dennis Hardy on November 24, 1973 in Platteville, Wisconsin. He preceded her in death in 1994. On August 12, 1995 she was united in marriage to John Szymaszek in Platteville. Julie was a CNA at Bloomfield Manor, rural Dodgeville; she then worked in food service at Gray’s Nursing Home, Platteville. For over ten years she worked at Upland Hills, Dodgeville in food service. Julie enjoyed gardening, birds, and camping. She especially loved to spend time with her grandchildren.
Julie is survived by her husband, John of Rewey, WI; three children, Timothy Hardy of Platteville; Jennifer (James) Meyer of Cuba City, WI; Sara Hinderman of Apple River, IL; two stepsons, Joshua (special friend, Dawn Mahr) Szymaszek of Arcadia, WI; Nathan Szymaszek of Belmont, WI; five grandchildren, Christopher, Steven and Victoria Meyer, Carissa Hinderman, Laylah Szymaszek; three sisters, Bonnie (Richard) Carlin of Fennimore, WI; Linda (Lloyd) Maag of Woodman, WI; Rose (Dan) Knapp of Cuba City; two brothers, Roger (Sharon) Updike of Boscobel; Tom (special friend, JoAnn Stemen) Updike of Nolanville, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents.
