Judith “Judy” Lorraine (Kronberg) Benzine

MONONA-Judith “Judy” Lorraine (Kronberg) Benzine, age 68, died surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at her home in Monona.

Judy was born on Feb. 17, 1944, in Madison, the daughter of Leonard and Olga (Quam) Kronberg. She was a graduate of Columbus High School. Judy was united in marriage to Richard Keith Benzine on Nov. 7, 1964. She began her career with the State of Wisconsin Department of Corrections in 1966, and retired in April 2003. In April 2003, Judy was hired as a part-time administrative secretary for St. Stephen’s Food Pantry; a job she thoroughly enjoyed, working with dedicated volunteers.

Judy enjoyed camping, long walks on the beaches, biking, walking the malls with her husband, and making lutefisk and lefse to keep the Norwegian tradition going. Most of all, she treasured the precious time with her grandchildren, family, and friends which reminded her each day of Christ’s love for each of us. Judy was an active member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Monona since 1967. Throughout the years, she served on the church council, as secretary of the executive board, as a deacon, fellowship host, Sunday School superintendent and teacher, administrative secretary and volunteer for St. Stephen’s Food Pantry, as well as serving in numerous other capacities.

Judy is survived by her husband, Richard; children, Jim (Mary) Benzine of Sun Prairie, Jenifer (Wayne) Engelbrecht of Sun Prairie, and Jerry (Holli) Benzine of Verona; seven loving grandchildren, Annie and Lauren Benzine; Michele and Matthew Engelbrecht; and Maddy, Brooklynn and Sydney Benzine; siblings, Robert (Karen) Kronberg of Rio, and JoAnn (Eugene) Benisch of Sun Prairie; brothers-in-law, John (Crystal) Porter, Lyle (Oma) Benzine, Ralph (Shirley) Benzine, Merlin Reierson; sister-in-law, Ethel Uttech; and many dear relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Olga and Leonard Kronberg; sister, Ruth Porter; and infant sister, Jean.
